Jerome was born in France in november 1963. He started to play the guitar at the age of 13 and after a couple years of playing rock with local bands in his parisian suburb, he discovered Jazz through his fatherʼs records and the radio. He began to «improvise» in the style of jazz and learn enough songs by ear, to play sessions with his father ( amateur drumer ) and freinds, wich led him to his first gigs at the age of 16.
After high school, in 1982, jerome left France for Boston to study music at Berklee College of Music. During 4 years, he learned from classes and more so from playing with many young and gifted musicians comming from all US and many other countries : Ira Coleman, Gene Jackson, Danny Walsh, Dave Kikosky, etc.
He played some gigs with the great Jerry Bergonzi and Steve Grossman. In 86, Jerome came back to France to tour with Steve Grossman and Europeen musicians.
He came back to the states in 87 but in New York this time. Jerome got a lot from New Yorkʼs scene and this fascinating city, playing all kinds of gigs from weddings to Jazz clubs, working little jobs in the city and living the life. He got to play with such greats as Kirk Lightsey, Rufus Reid, Billy Hart, Joe Lovano, Ronny Mathews, Jerry Gonzales, Tom Harrel , Eddie Henderson and other greats from his generation such as Tim Reis, Leon Parker, Scott Colley, Cindy Blackman, Bill Stewart, Kevin Hayes, Larry Goldings and many other talents. In 89, Sunnyside Records, produced his first record with K.Lightsey, R.Reid, B.Hart, intitled «Feliz» as a leader and composer. In 91, Jerome came back home to Paris France. There, he lead several bands and worked with local musicians such as Tony Rabeson, Paul Imm, Emmanuel Bex, Riccardo De Fra, Jean-Michel Pilc, Stéphane Belmondo. He played in france’s biggest festivals, opening once for Pat Metheny and Jim Hall in 91, Miles Davis in 93. He recorded in Paris as a sideman, two records of Donald Brown ( «French Kiss» and «At this point of my life» ) and one record of Bill Mobley ( «Mean what you say» ) for « Space Time Records . He put out his own record « Melodolodie» ( Sunnyside Records ) with his quartet ( Baptiste Trotignon (P.) Vincent Artaud (B.) and Daniel Bruno Garcia ( D.), playing his personal compositions. He co-lead, with Olivier Temime a Jazz-Funk band «The Volunteered Slaves» that released two records: «Streetwise» and « Breakfast in Babylon» ( label : Plus loin music ).
Jerome is now leading his new great band «Jérôme Barde & Les Jazztronautes», a multidimentional quintet playing fresh, colourful yet «rooted» original compositions !
